Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image.
This critter looks like a spider but it isn't. It belongs to the Order Opiliones. It is sometimes called a Harvestman.
They are not poisonous and I am of the belief that their mouths are so small, they can not even bite a person.

When I was a bit younger and a group of us were exploring caves in the cayons and hills around San Antonio, we used to run into something similar to this in huge numbers. The ceiling would be a woven mass of these spiders that people called daddy longlegs but they were a type of mite I was told. Still, a spider is a spider in my book. Except when you photograph it, Lee, and then it becomes art.
My venus fly trap loves those things!!! lol peace and love
beautiful capture! I love the details that you've caught, especially the eyes on top of the body (that black spot.) These are such strange creatures...eyes on a top-mounted cupola and a tiny, tiny (but still useful) mouth. In short, this is an intriguing creature and your capture does exquisite justice to the species.
Nice shot, love them daddies. Whats a mummy daddy long leggs called?? cheers Louise
great capture...
A super pic! We have many of these prowling under the laurel hedges, I think they are very attractive creatures.
Eeeeeeeewwwwwww! - He looks pretty much like a spider to me!!!! Great detailed and sharp capture though and I love your postwork!! xx
I like spider, they bring you luck. Great composition and colors
I always thought it was a spider. I have also heard the same thing about it's mouth. Great shot and focus on this fellow.
The Daddy Long Legs we have over here have wings, I will try and get a picture of one as soon as I can, trouble is they don't sit still for long. Excellent capture Lee, you can see how they got the name long legs. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!
