Description

The Fokker Company has always been good at marketing its products.Remember the Red Baron and his D7's and Trikes? The twin turboprop F27 above was a somewhat later design using a little less fabric and glue and a bit more metal. Around 800 copies were made, starting in 1955 and many are still in use all over the world. Currently there is an increasing demand for propeller driven turboprops as jets become more expensive to run mainly on account of the colossal rises in the cost of oil.

they made a lovely whistling noise from the pair of Rolls Royce engines..Dart turboprops.Oddly they still use Jet fuel which is Kerosene.

Great aviation image, I can remember flying from Moree to Sydney, Australia on Fokker Friendships as a boy. Now Qantas use Dash 8s on the same run. Very well done

I once watched one of these land in a stiff headwind that blew a Curtiss pusher so far back he had to tack like a sailboat to get back. It only took about 200 feet of runway for the Fokker. In Lancaster, California the wind is measured in yards. A yard is the length of logging chain that the wind can blow straight out. Pratt & Whitney does not make turboprops in the USA, only in Canada.
