Description

On the planet Delmar IV, the local fauna have voracious appetites for each other. Seems like someone is always chewing on somebody else. And visa versa. Many creatures that prey on the young of other species, in turn, become the prey of of their prey, when the survivors reach maturity. For example, adult zubarra and thranx hunt the young of the pug, but the pug in turn hunts them when they are very small. An adult pug moves very slowly, ambushing the distracted and unwary, whenever they happen to wander too close. The pug's tentacles can grab it victim and, once they seize the prey, that creature is doomed. It will be grabed and shoved into the pug's gnashing maw within less than a second. K'ysst is a fabled hunter of the H'rrar Clan. She is wise in the ways of her world. So far, she has managed to not get eaten; although one of her cubs was snatched by a large pug and another plucked up by a roving thranx. The rest--thank the Luck--remain among the living. Today, K'ysst has found a young pug that has just molted its old shell. For the next day and night, it must remain absolutely still, while its new shell forms and hardens. Slobber drooled from K'ysst's mouth. Raw or cooked, young pug was good eating. Carefully, K'ysst looked around. She didn't want anything creeping up behind her, while she was engaged in her kill. The closest adult pug, several times her width and at least a head taller than herself, was definitely hunting, grabbing up whatever small beastie changed in its path. She was well aware that it was headed toward her. Plenty of time. No need for haste. K'ysst turned and dispatched the immature pug with her spear. Then she pulped its head with the metal knob at the opposite end of her spear. You had to make sure they were dead before you handled them. The pug youngling wasn't capable of killing her, but it certainly could remove some serious chunks of K'ysst's body--not to mention fingers and toes--if still conscious. Satisfied that her prey had been properly dispatched. K'ysst picked it up and hurried away from adult pug. _______________________________________ Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. An amazing scene. I don't know how to put it, but it feels complete, like you have thought of every detail (which you of course have) to make it this cool, like a scene from ancient times on earth, or from another planet.. Cool!
