Description
This old boy was standing in the middle of the road and couldn't be bothered that we had to get to the camp on time. He was just staring into the distance thinking of his youth I imagine. The age of a giraffe can be determined by the colour of their spots. The darker the spots, the older they are. This one is very old! If you look closely, you will also see calluses on his neck. The males fight by hitting each other with their necks. They also rub their necks against Acacia (thorn) trees all the time to get rid of ticks and other parasites! Graceful old boy though! This image was also taken in the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Thank you for stopping by.
Hugs, Carin xx

LOL getting the e bot and not seeing the thumb, I got all set to see a SA police officer, great shot Carin, and a crafty title :)
Ronnie - but this is a SA police officer!!! :)

superb capture my friend, i always found giraffes to be interesting looking yet cute, last one i seen was in the NC zoo many years ago, they are cool animals.
'n Wildtuin robot! :P Definite pensive mood displayed by the animal, great profile capture Carin, and humorous.

amazing shot. what a handsome figure. nice border work
Is there a problem, officer? Another fine profile capture of one of the many magnificent animals that inhabit the South African veldt, Carin! Incidentally, in case you didn't know it, giraffes have no vocal chords.
Jeez, what a site. I hope to God I get to SA some day, with you and Piet as my guide! :)))
Wonderful photo.
Fabulous shot ;)
I can't imagine being able to see these lovely creatures in their own world. Thanks for sharing with us!
Wonderful capture Carin.
I can see the age in the shape of the head and the set of the face. He is a proud one, isn't he? I wouldn't argue with a traffic cop that had legs this long...! Fabulous shot.
Wonderful shot!
Great photograph! He was undoubtedly informed about you: A great photographer drops by.
That's really a big obstruction on the road. Excellent shot, looks impressive!
as long as he is that big and that beautiful, he can stop whoever he likes, especially if i have my camera with me.
Great photograph; there is regal dignity in it...the giraffe himself possesses it, but your image is wonderfully seen and presented! Beautiful image!
The have the right idea of time, do they not? Far less stressed this way. Well done, Carin! Cheers, Clive.
Great, and beautiful, wonderful shot!!
