Description
I think it's cool that one of the greatest discoveries in astronomy was made by amateur astronomers. Gene Shoemaker was one of the finest examples of a scientist bucking popular opinion and my hat is especially off to him, as well as the others. When the comet hit Jupiter it was surely the most spectacular event ever recorded within our Solar System.
This, by the way, was done with Apophysis 206 3D hack, which is available on the web.
Hope your weekend is going well and
Thanks for Looking!

If a comet breaks up in space and there's nobody looking, does anyone see it? IMHO this was the most spectacular cosmic event to occur in my lifetime, even more than the moonlanding. Thank you for reviving the memory of it!
super looking
Oh yes, I remember it well, July 1994 when the astronomers Carolyn & Eugene Shoemaker also David Levy discovered up to 20 fragments flying through the Cosmos ! Good representation Ken, of the this space event ! BB
Sorta like an under dressed Christmas tree, but comes with a spectacular finish ! Neat fractal and orange hues ! ~Cheers~
I'm stunned.
Stunning and very interesting shot, looks impressive.
This is an amazing image. Yes, agree with your opinion about this discovery by amateur astronomers!
Oh my, I thought this was something from space. It's beautiful. I have Apophysis but never make anything decent from it like you do. Excellent!
