Description
The Giant's Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland was formed by red-hot lava erupting from an underground fissure and crystallised some 60 million years ago into the hexagonal shapes we see today. There are about 37,000 of these shapes, including the ones under water.
The Causeway only came to general notice as late as 1740. It is the North's number one tourist attraction (Lonely Planet, Ireland, 1996).
This picture was taken in May 1998 and later scanned.

superb image and great facts on this, thanks for sharing my friend !
Excellent.
A place I've often thought of visiting myself Sig, I can't see it happening now though, it entails too much walking for me. I still plan on visiting Eire, sometime though, in the next few years. This years plan is the Welsh coast from top to bottom. Excellent capture, and still looks good even off a scanned image. Bravo!!!!!
fantastic!
Awesome shot!!! I've always wanted to see this place, wonderful capture!
I never have been there, amazing !
Excellent shot. Good interest and great pov. Wonderful information as well.
I've always wanted to see this in the 'flesh', too. Your pic gives a sense of the scale of it often lacking in geography book photos.
Such a fascinating place! I saw a bit about this on PBS. Very cool!
Greetings Siegfried, As I look at the formation of rock, which appears to look like a bee honeycomb, I can only marvel at natures beauty and the many surprises she hold in store for us. Thank you for sharing. egmont
I remember my visit there it's a great place to go :)
Most Americans know this from a Led Zepplin album cover...;)
Excellent capture of the Giant's causeway which I knew by name and proposed myself to visit during my two-year stay in Connemara, but ...it's still a mythic place for me so far. I like the angle you took to capture it, as it is too often shown and captured in the same way. Excellent photography, Sig!
Stunning rock formation ! Nature is so surprising ! Thanks for sharing ! This place seems to be really beautiful !

Excellent shot. Sig! This reminds me of the Devil's Postpile in southern California.
Like others have stated already, I have never been across to Ireland north or south and we see this image in books etc. I am totally amazed at the rock formations with this hexagonal patterns, another place I must go and see for myself. thanks Sig.
