Description
I literally gasped out loud when I walked up to this atlas moth! It is native to China and southeast Asia and is the largest moth in the world. They can have a wingspan of nearly a foot across! This one was probably 8-10 inches across and is the largest insect I have ever seen in my life.

OMG it's three dimensional! this is a sensational image!
youve outdone yourself here, what an exceptional find!!
Wow, it's really splendid, I first thought it's white parts were transparent. Lucky you for seeing it ;O)
Brilliant work. This is a perfect moth pic!!! (^_^)
Beautiful shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Scott, is this for real? What a huge bugger, resembling some kind of arcane sculptured iron works! What hath God wrought? A tremendous find, Maria, and I like the POV employed in this fine macro. But if it's native to China, what is it doing down in your neck of the woods? Caught up in a jet stream, per chance?
Looks incredible. What a fantastic shot!
nice shot ! this species has to be the Mother of all Moths...
Mind blowing! Great capture, I had no idea they could be this big, it's really beautiful.
This is lovely, good DOF, and a great find!!!
I saw these in the Butterfly Garden near Butchart Gardens and I was so impressed with their size and beauty. We could walk around and get as close as we wanted to them but all of them had parts missing and I didn't get nearly the perfect picture that you did. This is a spectacular shot, as usual.
WOW! Spectacular photo and moth.
