Description
Donna and Fanny looked so beautiful
So happy on this, their wedding day
And everybody was there, their family
Their friends, their colleges from work
How far have we come in such short time
From vicious and cruel discrimination
Over outcries of moral decadence
To physical attacks by homophobes
Thank goodness, society is moving on
Giving all people the right to love
However weird it might seem for some
A marriage is a contract between people
No matter what their gender is
The deep love for each other is real
And so is their right to live together
In a binding legal sense, giving protection
Just as to any other wedded couple
I know some people still see this
As problematic, a schism in society
But just think about it for a while
Doesn’t everybody deserves the joy
Of marriage

They look radiantly beautiful. Excellent thoughts. Something to be thought about and learned here. Bunny
Well said, my friend. I wish more people could see the sense of what you say, especially in this country. They look so happy; I wish them a lifetime of love for each other.
Absolutely beautiful, and may they have eons of love and happiness!!
Thank heavens things are finally starting to change. People should be able to marry who they love. Nothing else makes sense. Beautiful presentation. I wish your friends many years of love and happiness!
agree !! totally !!
Fine sentiments, finely expressed. Completely agree. Mike
Excellent and beautiful integral work my dear friend......!!!!
Two very happy people on this, a most wondrous day! I remember attending my mother's wedding. She wed a predominant professor of psychology from the university. The small town where they wed was like no other surrounding them. This was a college town, where the inhabitants had learned and embraced differences of all types. My mother's marriage, the happiest I have ever seen or will ever see before was a mere 14 years short. Gail, mom's significant other, died from an ovarian dragon. I shake my head at other's lack of understanding, and I continue to salute them for their beliefs, no matter that they differ from my own. Some day, change will occur, just look how far we have come! Thank you Dirk, your posts always provoke personal thought...[=
This is a radiant and gorgeous photograph! Great writing accompanies it, as do wonderful points to ponder. Love, after all is what marriage is about, and as long as two people love each other, then that's all that should matter. This also strikes EXTREMELY close to home as members of my own family have recently taken to the rabid, Bible-thumping born-Again Christian route, and it's always ironic when I hear them speaking of the "protection of the institution of marriage" and the "underlying fabric of American society." I have no idea how standing in the way of people getting married is actually protecting the institution of marriage, but then, I'm also one of those people who declared at a very young age that gender is nothing but a crutch for people who don't have enough brain power to remember what articles of clothing to keep zipped up. Anyway, enough of that. This is a fantastic post, full of vibrant life and observation, and it's something that gives me hope. Fantastic work!
This lands me smack in the midst of smiles. There is little to add to some of the thoughtful commentary already written by the fine folks here. If words could break barriers, crumble walls, manifest change...then surely you know I'd be the first one to write a novella of a rant. Sighhh. I've always found it inexcusable that ANYONE would be denied any honest expression of love, or the personal and societal right to a legal union which entails all the potential entitlements that heterosexual couples so effortlessly enjoy. The still predominant social doctrine is impossibly ludicrous..but, not surprisingly, imposed and kept afloat by the so-called moral (yeah, isn't THAT a kick in the pants) majority, who often profess their piety the loudest, and live it the least. So discordant, when love, acceptance, tolerance, forgiveness, and a zillion other virtues are supposed to beat at the heart of the matter..that the same collective willingly, and deliberately, maintains barricades to achievement of the very same things. I live for the day when morals become our actions, rather than our reactions, and stuff we just drivel off at the mouth over. I know I'll never live that long, but I can never squash the hope. A truly delightful and sweet image, as are your words and insights on the matter. Well put, my friend. And congratulatory hugs and best of wishes to these two. May they soar together, beyond boundaries.. :)
The saddest thing is two people who love each other, who live together, who refer to their life's partner as "my room-mate", and can't say they are a couple because of what family and friends would say. I look at this picture and wish it could be for everyone, not just those of us who choose opposite sex partners to marry. May this union be blessed, and may love fill their lives always.
They are beautiful!
Thanks Dirk! This is so sweet of you! Greetz, Fanny and Dona
