Description
I stepped outside the hospital ward
The news hadn’t been that good
One of my adrenal glands was swollen
And I mean BIG, like a mandarin orange
I had to wait for a meeting on Monday
When all specialists working on my case
Would provide answers, the ones I’m hoping for
The ones I’m dreading, the unexpected ones
And Linda looked so sad, almost tearful
Just when she thought the battle was over
Here we were again bracing ourselves
For another round of life or death days
But I watched several people passing me by
They looked dull, and the weather was damp
The sounds of the city were muted and slow
Even the birds looked tiresome, waiting for spring
I wondered what was going on inside of me
Was something there sharpening it’s knives
Undisturbed, without a plan, without a goal
Preparing to commit murder on the body
It depended on

Lots of blessings and prayers coming your way. May the news be good this time. Bunny
I don't know what to say except that you will be in my prayers each day. If it is His will, may God heal you.
Words fail me, Dirk. I will hope for the best and await the next update. Good luck, my friend.
My prayers are with you, and may the best of things come to you...
I have no words that could begin to say anything meaningful here, just know that you are my thoughts and prayers. Your words say it all, unimaginable as this is for most of us.

My 'nasties' are in the marrow of my bones, which as yet resist. My sincere thoughts are with you my friend. Bravely written. Mike
My thoughts are for your continued success in this long battle Dirk..
I only hope that one of the many other reasons that a glad can become enlarged in the explanation. Whatever the results, your strength, resolve and love for each other will get you through. And of course, the prayers. Lots of people here on RR are praying for you, and prayer has worked wonders before. May it be so this time too, Dirk!
Waiting for those test results is horrid. I like the way you ended your poem - that's just what it feels like, isn't it?
WOW! I must say that you are definitely a warrior, and what you write about is incredibly overwhelming in so many respects. I have no experience with what you are going through, but from what I can see in what you wrote, you are facing the biggest of life's obstacles with dignity and healthy contemplation! THIS is as important as recovering from the senselessness of cellular treachery! You have my respect, and my thoughts and wishes go with you, for what that's worth. As for the writing itself, it's flawlessly direct and has absolutely none of the maudlin sentiment that can so easily accompany a piece of writing on this subject. This makes it all the more powerful, poignant, and personal. I hope that your expected test results come back soon, and in the best possible way! My thoughts are definitely with you.
oh dirk, i was hoping your poem was realistic fiction, but i see from others' comments that you are living this horror... my prayers are with you as well. your poem is all the more powerful for the circumstances in which it was written; well done - and i thank you for turning horror into insight for us.
I can only echo what's been said here. I can only hope the news will be good. I'm holding you and Linda in my heart, in my thoughts, in my prayers.
A relentless saboteur. I am counting on you to blindside him.
