Description
These Cottonwoods stand along Chinle Wash between Many Farms and Round Rock, Navajo Reservation (Navajo Nation), Arizona.
Cottonwoods are deciduous riparian trees that usually line ponds and washes. Because they are phreatophytes they are able to tab into the subsurface flow of the usually dry washes of Arizona and the American Southwest.
This picture was taken on 17 November 2003.

I battle the cottonwood trees every year and every year they win as I am terrorized by the pollen and bits of fluff they release. As lovely as they can be to the traveler looking for cool shade in blistering heat, they can only best be appreciated by some (like me) from a great distance or in a marvelous capture such as this.
Wonderful silhouettes, Sig. This has the lonely look that I often get from the desert. Very nice.
