Description

(EDITED POST, updated version is now here) This is a cover for one of Jana Oliver's Time Rovers series--and if you read the comments below you can see how *wonderful* Rosity folks are. As of noon Friday, Feb 29th, there was enough time to incorporate most of the suggestions--from editing the fraxes slightly (I was able to do it on layers so the designer can still pull out what she needs for the logo), and the addition of more smoke really make the figure pop. I also fixed up the hand somewhat to have more detail, and tweaked the light a bit, though not much. It's now off to the designer and a huge THANK YOU for all your comments! This is version two (actually it is version 10 for changes;-)--I might finish up version one and post it here, it has a different UK monument on fire but as the story went through revisions the setting changed too. If you haven't read any of the series yet, you should pick up Sojourn by Jana Oliver, the first in the series--it's on Amazon, trade paperback, Dragon Moon/Hades press. Now I just have 3 pics more to do... by next Friday;-0

Great portrait. Lot of emotion in the face. Yeah, more smoke, perphaps rougher hands. Really exciting.

I really like it, but I think you need to work on the fx around the clock, just dont look right. Otherwise its great.

his face is fabulous. i also like the bkgrd and the reflections of fresh rain upon the pavement, and wow, but i love his shoes! i agree that the effects around the watch could use a bit more blending, and given the fact that their brightness is strong enough to reflect back from the water on the ground, i'd expect to see a bit more colour interaction on his clothing, too. his left arm also seem a touch off in pose and proportion, and that hand could use a few touches of more detailing to better match the depth of detailing you managed on his face. and excellent rendering overall... :))

This is excellent. Only the EFX around his Hand don't fit 100% in my eyes. It's to clear i think. But anyway a great Image !

Fantastic.Love everything here. His expression and the BG. I only agree with the FX. I think more blurry would more fit the image.

Brilliant setting and painting! Love everything here but I agree with the effects around the watch. They don't match with the rest of the painting i.m.h.o. If you can fix that you have a masterpiece!

WOW - this looks amazing Lynn. I can't say much more than the previous commenters though. The only things that came to my head in terms of imprevements are the effects around the pocket watch would need some blurring to make them match with the rest of the image. Perhaps a bit more smoke and some little flames that comes out of the tower in the back. Nevertheless it's already a terrific artwork! Would love to see the final piece if possible, too.

Wonderful work! Only one thin, if tower is on fire, there should be more fire or smoke in front of tower too. Will waiting for other version :) GREAT!!!

Certainly looks Victorian/Edwardian London! I'm echoing everyone else in the effect around the watch does look like a fractal overlay ;-) But the rest is AbFab!!

The almost-caption might be, "Did I leave the gas on?" Great work as usual! Will this be showing in NY next month?

Gorgeous work, once again! I do agree with what Kat said about the hand. That's really the only thing I find that looks a bit 'off', but who am I to say... I couldn't paint a fingernail, let alone an entire hand! Giggle Really brilliant paint work, hon'. Bravo! :D

Great work. This is super. The atmosphere and quality of image are perfect for this kind of book. Of course, as with all book cover images, something is bound to look odd because the text is missing and they are often designed with that in mind. The hand looks fine, because is in a place where the light is flat and therefore not enhanced by it, however, it does help to make it stand out and that's great because, of course, he has just dropped his hat in surprise - so that message comes across and sets the whole scene! A great job!
