Description

The Temminck's is one of 5 species of Tragopan pheasant. It is a medium sized pheasant which lives at high altitudes in the Eastern Himalayas, Southern Tibet, Myanmar and some surrounding areas. The male Temminck's Tragopan is an extremely bright coloured bird, mostly a rich shade of orange smothered with whitish ocelli (eye spots). He has a gorgeous blue face surrounded with black. Like all the Tragopans he has an amazing display and is able to inflate a pair of "horns" from his crown and a bib from the throat. The "bib" or lappet is particularly vivid with red and blue markings.. While widespread and several breeding pairs in captivity its status in the wild seems unclear, with some saying it is very endangered to others who claim otherwise. Thanks as always for taking time to look and any comments you care to make

We only had ring necks in our county and they flew in our backyard fired at by hunters as the shot rained down on our roof. Very pleasant to think of one different and far above.
