Description
This I am fairly sure is the Papuan Hornbill, Aceros plicatus also known as Blyth's Hornbill, or Kokom.. There is considerable differences of opinion in the research books if this is an individual or a sub species, whatever it is in my book a very beautiful bird..
This is an adult male with head and neck rufous; body and wings black; tail white; bill, with casque a series of low wreaths across base, pale yellow, with dark red-brown base and casque; bare circumorbital skin pale blue with flesh colored eyelids forming ring around eye; bare throat skin white with blue tinge; eyes red to red-brown; legs and feet black.
Hornbills have a facinating way to protect the female and eggs from predation, and shore up the holes in a tree so that the female can be fed through a small hole..
