Description
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter, used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries during the Second World War, and into the 1950s.[2] It was produced in greater numbers than any other Allied design. The Spitfire was the only Allied fighter in production at the outbreak of the Second World War that was still in production at the end of the war.
Produced by the Supermarine subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrongs, the Spitfire was designed by the company's Chief Designer R. J. Mitchell, who continued to refine the design until his death from cancer in 1937; the position of chief designer was then filled by his colleague, Joseph Smith.[3] Its elliptical wing had a thin cross-section, allowing a higher top speed than the Hawker Hurricane and other contemporary designs; it also resulted in a distinctive appearance, enhancing its overall streamlined features. Much loved by its pilots, the Spitfire saw service during the whole of the Second World War and subsequent years, in most theatres of war, and in many different variants.
The Spitfire will always be compared to its main adversary, the Messerschmitt Bf 109; both were among the finest fighters of their day.

I'd concur with RBlue on the image, love it, as much as I love Spitfires!
Am schönsten war die Spannung, bis man endlich mal was zusehen kriegte! 2x removed, Respekt ;) Excellent done image, love the view above the clouds and the dynamic in here!
Great job with this Rey!
I had to re-read your commentary to see that these were rendered and not photo's..nice work!
Great Spits with Polish pilots [insignia on the nose]Machines of squadron designated RF
I love it.
Very cool Rey!
Classic wooden aircraft, I used build plastic models of these when I was much, much younger ! Thanx for the memories ! ~Cheers~
Looks very realistic! Well done!
I just was looking way back in my site mail... You realize you was the second person to write me when I joined a year and a half ago??? Didn't recognize your name, but I've seen your avatar floating around... this is a cool image.
Thanks for the flattering comments. Technically: -applied Groundplane with cloud textures, duplicated - 2 metaclouds -posed the spitfires & pilots in Poser and exported to Vue6 -spectral admosphere -rendered in Vue6 (broadcast) -postwork in CS2: -desaturated the image of a certain amount -sharpen-Filter applied 2x -duplicated layer (BG), noise filter applied and layer to 40% opacity -new layer, overlay mode, filled with blue, 30% opacity
Wowwwwww!!! Excellent work!
Way cool action composition. Beautifully framed.
Fantastic work my friend :) Sorry for late comment, my cold got much heavier than I thought..
Wonderful scene
Remarkable machines and a more than remarkable image, Rey! Fantastic desaturated colors and a wonderful POV and light. This is perfect!
Very impressive as usual. Great composition and POV. Superb picture.
Superb work, excellent!
As I recall Mitchell took his inspiration from the anatomy of birds. This was not an accepted approach for aircraft at the time believe it or not. This is part of why the Spitfire looked so unique for its day. And you are right, I've never heard or read of a Spitfire pilot who did not love this aircraft. Perhaps one of the greatest aircraft in the age of flight.
Very nice view, textures & work!
Looks like a photo, Rey!!! Fantastic!
Realistic and very cool image ... superior work!
classic composition!
Superbe image guerrière. Une représentation classique de la seconde guerre mondiale. Du très bon boulot.
Perfect formation, just the way it should be, love this B&W style.
An excellent image and a very special image as this is my son's favorite plane. Great work and as always great realism!
