Description

Don't look TOO closely... this is as good as it gets! lol I was out and about with my new lens one day. The cat came along to keep me company, as usual. He nearly blew my chances for a shot of this cardinal. I cannot believe she sat still for so long while she watched that cat approaching. I didn't dare move but extended the lens while clicking away. This was the least blurry image (but at 200mm!) ~ as I was panicking more than the bird! (Dang Cat!!) Basically - I love the lens. AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm VR The vote is still out on the cat... Thanks for looking! Jodie

Dear Jodie, when out on a photo shoot, cats and birds don't mix! Maybe a poor analogy, but you don't light up a cigarette when you're pumping gas into your auto. Great POV, clarity, colors and especially the lighting effects in this fine macro, young lady. Incidentally, the Cardinal is far from its home in St Louis, MO.

Nice capture. Far from being drab, the female Cardinal is every bit as beautiful as her male counterpart, albeit more subdued. This picture really captures that beauty.

I have never known a piece of art to look amazing eyeball close ... this is an absolute stunner no need for a magnifying glass! Look how all the colours surrounding the gorgeous little soul complement each other!

Hi Jodie, I've been looking at this lens myself (in fact you can buy it here in a kit with the D80 for an attractive price...) but I still did not decide if - for bird photography - I'll go that way or digiscopy... I'm waiting for the spring to organize some trials... Your cardinal is really beautiful... I would be proud of such a shot ! Take care my friend; warm hugs ! 48.gif

I think you did a great job, especially considering your feline handicap. You captured her colors really well.

It's a pity she chose this exact spot to face the Cat & company but she is female after all, adding a bit of complexity just for fun, lol! Wonderful bird and you did well, I would have uploaded it too.

The DOF makes for a good three dimensional effect on this one, Jodie. Rare to catch one of these birds with their crest up like this. NICE!
