The name referrences Star Trek "vacation" planets, which is what this bizarre color scheme and lush vegetation reminded me of. Actually, the scene reminds me more of the low-tech, technicolor sets of the original series, but the planet names are from later Star Trek series. As an interesting aside (well, maybe just to any Sci-Fi fans out there), Gedi Prime's name may be a homage to "Giedi Prime" (home of House Harkonnen) from Frank Herbert's "Dune" series. Said to make Risa look like a tourist trap, it was a favored Federation recreation planet. Risa - Also called Epsilon Ceti B II, located about ninety light-years from Earth, known for its beauty and relaxing tropical atmosphere. It is a world commonly sought by interstellar vacationers and starship crews on shore leave. The planet orbits several stars and its climate is controlled by a weather modification network, with the natural climate being extremely violent. Risians, especially the women, are extremely open and will freely share their planet, and even themselves, with vacationers; a practice known as "Jamaharon". Perhaps not coincidentally, the fun-loving planet's name is also the Spanish word for "laughter." Alternatively, the German word for "travel" is Reise, which, while spelled differently, has the same pronunciation. This is a rare IR capture where I was actually able to get a range of colors rather than just reds and blues. The usual color swap was done, then I went into the Hue/Saturation command and boosted the color values -- the orginal being a bit more muted than this. A bit over the top? Perhaps. Oh yes, yes, yes, sign me up immediately for a trip to Epsilon Ceti B II! Warp 15, Scotty! But captain, the antimatter coil will blow for sure at that speed! I'm just wondering if the stoic Mister Spock ever found any enjoyment in that wonderful ambiance of fun and relaxation. Superb IR treatment of the dark sky with its terrific cloud contrasts, foliage and water on this beautiful planet, even though the trees remind me of sponges torn asunder. Not to get technical here, but if the planet orbits several stars, when combined must cast a tremendous amount of nonstop light, then why is the sky so dark?

Three levels of depth in the thumb. And an echo of Bryce Canyon wedding cake. Four in the main. You realize most of your viewers see all this as flat? They are still incising basketweave patterns in leatherhard clay pots. This stuff CAN be done in the old media too, but it usually takes one precise viewpoint. There is even less of an audience there. But that audience, small though it is, is choice, isn't it?
