Description
These crosses are located adjacent to the Reichstag. Each cross represents a person that had attempted to flee across the River Spree in this vicinity. The crosses show the date of the unsuccessful escape and the name of the person, if known.
As I was standing there thinking about this, I realized that each one of these persons had risked their life to reach something we all take for granted-Freedom!
This picture was taken in October 1988 and is scanned.

Nice picture and memory of the history on this world .. Excellent, I like this serie ! Good day :)
Greetings Siegfried, It is easy to forget the struggles many individuals faced on a daily bases when living under an oppressed political system that controls their every movement, their every breath. This is especially hard on those who which to create without being subject of the guidelines of the regime they must satisfy in order to create. I would like to suggest a movie that won an oscar for best foreign film in 2006 called 'The Lives of Others'. It is in German and the translation is 98% accurate. The film deals with artist living in the DDR and the problems they faced. Have a great weekend and thank you for sharing. egmont
