The texturing and lighting on this is some of the best I have ever seen--it deserved to win and I hope you submit it to some of the 3d publications as well--it is an amazing work of art.

I haven't the faintest idea of what that person was thinking, but from what I am viewing, You more than deserved to win the Grand Prize. Big Congratulations. It is a most fascinating, colorful and magnificent piece. Perfection in every sense. All of the judges were correct. An amazing work.

Damn, Calum! Now you got me hungry after seeing this! LOL! I suppose I'll chime in here with my two cents about the whole ordeal. It's one thing to be really good at a straight forward graphic application and produce outstanding results, but to completely migrate to another platform and excel like you have in this short time is just astounding! There really isn't anything comparable to what you do and how you do it, and I'm glad that the judging panel opted to recognize the intensely hard work and labor that went into this piece. To me, this is Halloween....not cutesy, not fluffy, but in your face BLAM!, and I also salute the amazing technical aspects that fuse so well with the creative. And after five years of this contest, you finally got what you deserved after so many outstanding entries! I'm more than proud of where you are today and you never compromise your art to fit other's tastes. I've read all the comments here and they are quite interesting indeed; some really don't like gory themes at all, but can appreciate the level of detail that is provided by ass-busting hard work - and that's a lesson we all need to absorb really. As for those chipping off in the corner and belting out subjective critiques in the forums - it's tradition for this contest and goes on every year. Forgive them, Calum, for they know not what they do. LOL! I'm really curious to see how you will integrate that SpaceNavigator thingie within ZBrush! Something tells me some really interesting stuff is just around the corner and I can't wait to see it! Enjoy all the goodies, the fame and fortune, the groupies and wild parties...you really deserve the limelight with your finely tuned craft! Keep the torch burning and continue to kick ass - that's what we all want! Now stop screwing around and make some room for all those prizes! LOL!

Awesomely greusome! I love the irradiance of the skin- the texturing and modeling combined form a truly realistic and intense scene! The maggots are a great touch- sure, a lot of people might not appreciate the attention to detail or the level of work- they just freak out- but thats why we post for fellow artists to see!
