Notes on Human Interstellar Society:
#4: Meetings
For some, there is no more frightening a prospect than meeting a triad of Nemaean ships in the Border Territories, or the Uncharted Reach. More terrifying is the flight to an intentional rendezvous, with not three, but six such vessels. But when orders are given, one must follow them.
I was given such orders, and I and my compatriot crew approached our distant interstellar cousins with palpable dread. I’d never met a Nemaean before, and after meeting an entire heavy cruiser crew, I can say this: the Nemaean people harbor enthralling sentiments and an insightful, almost animistic regard for the deeper reaches of interstellar space. There is no doubt that they are governed by pronounced, atavistic drives. For all of the brutality implied by their starfaring vessels, they are an extraordinarily hospitable people, and in some ways, charmingly naive. It’s as if they exactingly embody the noble , often romanticized elements of Old Era pre-interstellar society. This naïveté, I suspect, is as much a glamour as the intentional “scars“ worn by their starships, and beneath the veneer of innocence lie hearts and minds of cunning, opportunistic pragmatism.

Yeah, those Nemaeans won't leave me alone, and a ton of characters are now moving into their particular visual and literary universe.
As before, this is a pure photoshop image, the entire scene was rendered/manipulated IN photoshop utilizing little more than a couple of starship templates that I'd made...and as always, thank you for viewing (and commenting) and I hope you have as much fun with this image as I did making it.

Lovely colors of the Earth and the starships look menacing enough. Great image, it gives me the impression of being a prelude to a battle.
Oh Chip, such marvelous colors! A GREAT pleasure to see this"word" wich is YOUR! Amazing work my friend!
AWESOME! Love it.
fantastico trabajo amigo. Esta muy logrado+5
Very well done. 5+.
fantastic image... love the ships....
Unfortunately, Josef Tennor tragically died before his journals could be submitted for publication, or his information would have reached a wider audience, thus saving many thousands of lives. For knowledge is everything, and an intimate knowledge of the Nemeean psyche a pre-requisite for dealing with their disconcerting ways. On the one hand hospitably inviting the occupants of a Psharian cruiser safe passage through their system, and on the other blasting a faster than light Outreach vessel (slowing for a docking maneuver) on the premise that faster than light drives owned by other civilisations could be perceived as a threat to their own safety. And (I hear you ask) how and why did Josef Tennor die? The 'how' is easy. He was poisoned by a Varian dart to the ankle on his way to his literay agent, clutching his collected works on a single wafer drive. Luckily as he fell onto the subway live track, the drive was repelled by the magnetic field and was caught by a passing gruteen who sold it for a tab of retro spice to a wafer drive street dealer. How the contents saw the light of day is another story. But the 'why' is like the elusive Vandervurld banderweasel. We may never see it in our lifetime.
