Description
Nikon 7900 image.
About a month ago, I watched this female Gulf Fritillary Butterfly laying eggs. After about 15 minutes of following her around, , I managed to finally get a good shot of the process.
I was concerned that her attempt to perpetuate the species was a wasted effort since there was very little foliage left on the Passion Flower Vines for any future caterpillars to eat and I figured that by the time the eggs hatched, there would be no foliage left at all. Then over the next week, we finally got a few brief showers and The Passion Flower vines actually put out enough new growth to give new caterpillars a chance, lol.
If you look closely, you can see one egg just to her right that has already been deposited on the little curvy vine and if you look very closely you can actually see just a bit of the egg that is about to be laid.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

Fascinating! What a catch! Your skill has brought a glorious view of this little seen process.
FANTASTIC SHOT ! .Congratulations .
simply brilliant!
I was going to say the background detracted a bit, but once I read your story, it enhanced my perspective of this pic. We're very used to seeing gorgeous, lush green backgrounds, here at RR, but you are making a very different statement with this shot... and I applaud you for that. Wonderful capture...great detail and focus, dead on color tones and perfect exposure, as well. -M :^)
Just a word : Wonderful !
