Description
This photo was taken in Barry's Bay ON in thier Water Tower Park which has an assortnent of railroad memorabilia on display. I did not post this photo for it's aesthetic merrit, I simply found it a fasinating contraption. Only section foremen got to ride these, they were used to slowly inspect the tracks and visit to thier work crews. Despite being illegial to use today there is a company manufacturing them in the states using new light weight materials and wheels and probably gears like a mountain bike. Just for a moment picture yourself on one of these out in the country zooming along (no hills) with a camera around your neck and a iPod playing then out of nowhere doing about 70 the 3.10 to Yuma comes up behind you. Oh well...

Well, if you are riding your bicycle on the main-line, you deserve what you get. On the other hand, there are a LOT of abandoned tracks and lines that a toy like this could be used on. Logging railroads that are no longer in service, that sort of thing. Great pic.
Now that looks like fun!
but could be a concept cycle to solve energy famine!
Nice find... Aloha
Interesting. Too bad there's not a market for these. They look pretty easy to fab.
This is a fascinating rail bike. I had no idea they had these. Wonderful shot that shows how it works and all.
Believe I've seen a photo of a tricycle version of this. Used to check for gauge accuracy. Neat photo.
really interesting relic. I never seen one before, only the two man carts with a seesaw handles.it would be fun to ride but definitely no ipod present for me
what we call here in Russia "drezina". definitely a relic, but is really fascinating. imagine how they felt riding it
