Description
Nikon 7900 image.
I always seem to find some spiders each year that make better subjects that some others. This Green Lynx female spider is one of those. She is in an easy to reach location and she always seems to be hungry.
I know where she lives and I check on her pretty often. She, like others of her kind, is a very efficient hunter. These spiders do not use webs to capture or wrap up their prey. The loose strands of silk you see in this image are just random leftovers from the safety lines she attaches here and there as she moves about. They provide her a safe fast way to escape. When threatened, she just bails off the perch she is on and glides to the ground as she is suspended by the silk thread. Then she has a way back up as well, lol.
There are more meals to be seen so beware, lol.

Have never seen one of these...impressive shot..well done..
Those green spiders are so unusual. The detail is great. Fantastic job, Lee.
An awesome creature! I love the contrast of the red against all the greens. I also like the DOF and the POV is outstanding! Wonderful photo!! :o)
words cannot explain how good your work is !!!!!!!!!!
Great capture..
A mind-boggling moment of cruelty superbly captured. The modus operandi as you describe it also gives me goose flesh! Everything's excellent in this post, congratulations!
I have run out of superlatives for your work Lee, they are just out of this world. You never cease to amaze me, I always look forward to your posts and I cannot remember ever having been dissapointed. Not only do you show the fine hairs on the spiders legs but also the very fine hairs under the belly and along the back. Even down to the prey, you could almost count the hairs on its head. Photography at it's best. Bravo!!!!!
Oh my gosh Lee, unbelieveable, the macros you get. This is 'out of this world'! :)
Another Impressive Great Shot . Congratulations ! & Thanks for sharing ! Have a nice day
last summer I had one the whole time on roses, but this summer I saw a young one which disappeared.I thinking a bird got her.they are easy to approach also if you make no sudden movements and not likely to bite.your capture is outstanding
woah! excellent capture
Was that a mwahaha we heard from you on the more meals to come? Hmmmm. Excellent capture. The colors are spectacular as are the details. Bunny
Awesome creature!
This is so impressive. I have spent the summer watching and waiting for insects, spiders, for any small creatures and found only ants. I wonder if we are spraying too much insecticide. I have not seen even a grasshopper, nor a spider and wonder what the birds are finding to dine upon. I like your macro work. I envy your finding subjects.
Aww! Great scene!
She's as beautiful as she is deadly.
