Description
Despite engine problems and the fact that it was difficult to maintain, the PzKw V "Panther" was probably the most advanced tank design of the Second World War. Thick sloped armor, stabilized suspension, and an excellent 75mm L70 gun made it a deadly opponent. This "G" version is on display at the US Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
The nasty looking German 10.5cm self-propelled gun in the right background is one of the few GW IVB Heuschreckes built during WW II. (If I'm not right about this, I'm sure weesel or chuter will call me on it!)

I used to crawl over that tank when I was stationed at Aberdeen Proving ground. Looks like they did some more restoration work on it. I recall the number of captured Geramn tanks there but the weather was getting to them as the tracks and suspenssion was rusting away.. The Tiger they had actualy had battle scare from the shemran 75 mm rounds hitting it..

Good calls all . . . lol. Been there a few times. Did you get up the main road aways to see the all but abandoned Elephant sitting alongside the railhead out in the middle of a vacant field? Someday these will all be restored . . . someday . . .

Great pic. Aberdeen's an amazing place. What struck me most was the deep fist-sized shell splash on the front plate of the Jagdtiger that didn't penetrate.
I highly respect your view, but to me the 'King Tiger' is the best, both in looks and that 88. Still have to give you a '5' though. Drew.
Interesting to compare with your shot of the S-35 which was arguably advanced technology just 5 years earlier. The suspension system on these panthers was amazing for its time - excellent shot!

I remember Panzer from WWII, but don't know what they were. great capture and info! Also my dad talked about them!
