Description

Of course, this photo was not taken by me. My uncle's mother (Ethel Bacon Smith) took this photo at the turn of the century. She apparently had this wonderful group of five or so boys who would pose for her. In all of her photos, they look like they were having the best time, and I like to think they were. Ms. Bacon's father was one of Mark Twain's best friends growing up, and was one of the inspirations for the character of Tom Sawyer. Her son was Vice Admiral (Sir) Levering Smith, a remarkable man in his own right. Actually, a pretty remarkable family .... and I wanted to share this photo with you all just as a beautiful moment in time.

What a magnificent find this is! I love these old historic photographs. This one shows a much simpler, yet harsher time. And yes, those boys do look like they are having fun. Thank you for sharing this gem. Bunny

Truely an historic piece. Deserves to be in a museum. Fabulous composition. The boys look great but really love the sky.
