Description
This Malachite Butterfly had settled on this Formosa species yellow flower, and struck me how wonderfully adapted it was with the colours surrounding it a true testament to the harmony of nature.
Siproeta stelenes is the scientific name for the malachite, a brush-footed butterfly. The malachite has large wings which are black and brilliant green or yellow-green on the uppersides and light brown and olive green on the undersides. It is named for the mineral malachite, which is similar in color to the bright green on the butterfly's wings. The wingspread is typically between 8.5 and 10 cm. The malachite is found throughout Central America, where it is one of the most common butterfly species. Its distribution extends as far north as southern Texas and the tip of Florida, to Cuba and south to Brazil.

Gorgeous colors reminiscent of stained glass. Excellent!
Heavens to Betsy! This is such a pristine shot! teh clarity and focus is irreproachable and the compo is meticulous in its arrangement. Gorgeous shot!
Well, you couldn't have chosen a better backdrop for this beautiful butty if you'd set it up in a studio! The butty and flower compliment each other perfectly and it always amazes me how the insect world in general manage to achieve that state of "evolution" - if we as humans were to evolve to our surroundings as quickly, we'd all be looking like office blocks by now!! The capture, however is perfect! The DOF brings the butty out of the picture, almost 3D and your focus and clarity of details is spot-on. A beautiful shot Danny - pure perfection! xx

I don't own a butterfly book yet, as so many examples are showcased here for me to learn about. And what a stunning example this is! Amazing how the chartreuse coloring of the wings nearly perfectly matches the leaf. Nothing we can make on earth can match the beauty of the good Lord's creations. Thanks for sharing this beauty!
