Description

I thought about putting this under the "Horror" genre. This is another shot from MY garden! This might LOOK like a beautiful white morning glory, but this is actually bindweed. It grows along the ground, climbs telephone poles, trees, wires, anything it finds it will cover. As it grows, anyplace it touches the ground, it will root and spread. It has a distinctive smell, which I would recognize anywhere. If you leave it alone you can't smell it, but as soon as you crush the leaves, yanking it out by the roots wherever it is found, doing your part to save the planet from being covered in the stuff, you can smell it. It smells like hard work. It smells like a waste of time and energy. It smells like futility. It smells like a full recycling bin with no room left for anything else. I've tried to re-train myself to think of this as a beautiful plant, to no avail. It's just evil incarnate. Isn't it pretty?

Your title is PERFECTION! Your photograph is wonderful though, and I wish I could see all mine through your lens only! I have my share of this, since, a few years ago, my non-gardening neighbours planted some of these 'pretty things' beside the fence we share..........."Look at these pretty things we found in the woods"! The fight goes on..........and my revenge may well be in the form of either Roundup or Sidekick!

Oh yes, these are nasty. Reminds me of the story of the people who broke out in a terrible rash and couldn't figure out why. When someone went in their house, there was a beautiful red and orange arrangement of poison oak on their dining room table!! There are some things that just want to take over the world!!

Oh I have to laugh because less than 5 minutes ago I was looking at a shot of bind weed that I was going to post. At the last moment, I decided to post my morning glory instead. :-) I'm battling my bind weed like you and everyone else that has it in their yard. Every evening I pull another handful up. It's an endless task. This is a gorgeous shot if it. Makes you want to plant it... BUT DON'T! :-)

LOL, I love your description of this thing. I know exactly what you are talking about, the gardens at work are full of the stuff, I'm gonna be spending the best part of a today pulling it out. It's a wonderful shot, though I do have to fight the urge to spray weedkiller on my monitor when I see it. :)

Lol, I have to chuckle at this! As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of being a child, seeing it and popping the 'grannies' (as we called them) out of their beds! Great shot!

Love the narrative, this made the whole thing! Great capture too! I, thankfully, am not familiar with this flower. It looks like the Jimson Weed I have seen growing on the side of the road and in fields.

Such a graphic description! I was looking for horns & a pitchfork. They are such beautiful flowers but after that description I think they should be jet black. All our plants are in tubs, I have no 'bare' soil it is all paved or gravel in my garden. So do not have this trouble. The photograph itself is excellent though, love the title. Bravo!!!!!

What is this ambiguity of opinion? Can the bindweed be both lovely and evil? I suppose so, considering the bad queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was both evil and lovely. And so on including a whole spectrum of female vampires and nasty gals throughout the history of filmdom. In any event, a wonderful presentation of the bane/bete noir of your garden.
