Believe it or not:
This idyllic place was once part of the so called "Iron Curtain":
Till 1989 it was part of one of the ugliest borderlines in the world, the Berlin Wall, which divided Berlin and isolated West- Berlin from the surrounding province Brandenburg. Before World War II this was the old borderline of Berlin, not more.
The frontline run directly in the middle of the lake, marked with a row of buoys. On the eastern side was a fence with barbed wires and watchtowers and a row of lanterns for the night, and it was forbidden only to have a look at the lake. Refugees risked their lifes, the eastern police shot without a warning. At places like this more than 1000 persons were killed as refugees. The accurate number of killed persons is unknown.
Now we are looking from the once "forbidden" side across the lake to the shore of West - Berlin with it fine houses.

beautiful place and photo, thanks for the history lesson on this one, very interesting
This image is nicely done but more importantly it tells much of the healing of time. I had always thought of walls and fences in cityscape...not in a beautiful setting like you bring to us. Thanks very much for this image.
Excellent.................
Beatuful Capture..and POV..
