Description
Here's a salute to the USAF on the 4th of July captured a few years ago at the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. The Boeing KB-50J tanker in the foreground is a modified version of the B-29 bomber and served as the USAF's primary air to air refueler from the mid 1950s to the early 60s. The two underwing J-47 jet engines gave it the extra boost of speed it needed so B-47 and B-52 bombers wouldn't have to slow down too much to get a fill-up. The Rockwell B-1B bomber in the background is a type that is still in service.
