Lost in Space is a science fiction themed TV series produced by television producer Irwin Allen for the American television network CBS. The show ran for three seasons, with eighty-three first-run original episodes airing between 15 September 1965 and 6 March 1968.
The series was the most expensive in television broadcast history. Each episode was estimated to cost $400,000, quite a sum in the mid-sixties. It remained the most expensive tv series ever until "Space: 1999". Conceptually the series is a space-age riff on the classic adventure novel Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss. Initially, the series follows the adventures of an astronaut family that is shipwrecked on an alien world while en route to Alpha Centauri. In the later episodes they travel to other worlds in their search for Alpha Centauri.
Lost in Space followed Allen's philosophy that TV was supposed to be fun, as opposed to educational. His series, including Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants, were all very fast-paced and exciting, often at the expense of logic.
Portraited here are the B-9 Robot and the jupiter 2 spaceship, the hardware "heroes" of the series.

I watched the series back then. Played to my pre-teen sensibilities. $400K for the Vegatable people episode??? Oh the pain, the pain!! I liked season one and parts of the revamped last season. Nice clean render.
Another fine image! Yeah, the series did get excruciatingly bad in tha final season. Most younger folk don't know this, that CBS passed on STAR TREK saying "we alreay have a show like that we like better." The saucer was a wonderful design, obviously patterned after Cruiser C57D from FORBIDDEN PLANET. As you said, logic was often discarded-- the LiS cruiser had three internal levels (command, living, and a lower engine compartment with an open-pit ractor that went even lower!) plus room for the Lander????????
