Look at this one. It has been in my husbands home as long as he remembers. His father brought it home from one of his many turns, when he worked on a huge ship more then 70 years ago..
We are not sure, where it comes from and what the letters mean, but I am sure of one thing. I love it a lot. I dont polish it so much, because I like it the way it is. :)

It's astonishingly gorgeous. Vexing when you don't have the background on it though. I have a brass ship's clock that was given to me. The husband of a friend of my folks reportedly worked on an old frieghter on Lake Michigan. The ship had an explosion and fire in which her husband was fatally injured and the shipping company presented the wife with this clock in his memory. Must have been back in the 50s. Try as I might, I can find no information on which ship it came from. The clock co. went out of business many years ago and there are no records to be found. How wonderful it would be if we were able to find out more about our treasures. Excellent photo of this dazzling item.

Reminds me of a shield boss. Perhaps something less martial and more ornamental, but based on the same idea. Really neat piece.
