I was just reading in the papaer that car shows locally were ending. They can't get local sponsors for teh drawings and guys are selling their cars. Body shops catering to customs are seeing business down in the 20 percentiles. This looks like a 1958 Buick to someone from the fifities for real. The absolute pinnacle of excess chrome and the last year Harley Earl was chief designer at GM.

Yes definitely a 58 Buick, and the spade they heaped all the chrome on is visible on the side. Kidding, but the 58 Buick was really an excess. The Olds was even worse, being unrecognizable from the previous years. By that time Earl's "art direction" was getting into a blind alley. Fortunately the styling guys at GM flocked to Chrysler's proving grounds to gape at the "Forward Look" cars, and Billy Mitchell was given free reigns to start the 59 GM cars afresh. Of course that was then, and today we can love them all -- even the Edsel... Thanks for the visual souvenir.
