Description
Another illustration produced for the official Stargate magazine. This is the Ancient's 'Aurora' which was found drifting in space heavily damaged, with it's crew in hibernation and immersed in a virtual existence within the ships computer system.
This is basically the same model as the Orion (they are the same class), and was in fact created prior to the Orion. Again the reference was very rough, so it was modeled on whatever ref was available for the Orion, and then battered according to the Aururoa ref!
The planet BG is another matte painting I created for Star Wars Revelations.

This and the orion are really excellent, but I agree, compositionally this is the stronger piece.

Wonderful work! The Aurora, a great episode from SG Atlantis. I have some years ago the same idea for a s-f story. Well, they read my mind and... Seriously, it's a great render, very detailed and the planet gives a real look.
