Description

Trying out some new stuff here. I used a single ray-traced light. The asteroid had weird artifacts from ray-tracing, so I went back and rendered it using shadow maps. I used Photoshop to blur some of the components to get a cheap depth-of-field effect. Since I was aiming, more-or-less, at realism, I omitted the stars. (They would be washed out by the brightness of the ship and other stuff.) You can't really see it, but there is a figure in the egg-shaped vessel as well. The one thing I'm not too happy about is that the shadows on the ship in the foreground just don't look right. I've cut off commentary because I plan to extensively revise the image. I'm keeping the image up to provide a comparison with the revised version, which should be up sometime Thursday night latest.
