Description
This is one member of the pig family I had not seen before, though I am sure it is familiar to our South African friends..
The Bush Pig, also known by its scientific name, Potamochoerus larvatus, is found mainly in northern South Africa and in Madagascar. It tends to make its homes in the forests or swamps, and sometimes even on the Savannahs. You may think a Bush Pig looks a lot like a domestic pig, and you are right in some instances. The basic features of a Bush Pig is much like the domestic pig that we know, generally 1.5 meters long. But the Bush Pig, unlike the domestic pig, has tons and tons of fur that ranges in colour from brown to black to red. Unlike the curly tail in domestic pigs, the Bush Pig's tail is straight and is about 40 or so cm long. And unlike other wild pigs run with the tail down..
They can live to 40 years, however I doubt that many would survice predation from either man or animal that long..

Well done! I'm affraid!;-))
We have wild pigs here in florida but they are domestic pigs that escaped as homesteads failed about 100 years ago. They root up the ground to a muddy wallow to indicate where they are. These are quite attractive with their eye masks.
Great shot and I have never heard of these pigs before either!
Excellent capture! Excellent title too! :)

Excellent capture.. excellent story.
I've never seen any pigs like these. I don't think I've even seen any pictures of them. I like those big ears and the color of their fur. Neat looking animals.
Sure looks like George W. Bush. JK. ;^] I really like the DOF here. I also like how you got to their level. My critique here is that its a little bit tilted to the left.
