Description
Lost from Cornwall and now returned!
Cornwall was once a stronghold for choughs, which bred in the county until 1952, long after they disappeared from the rest of England. As choughs declined, they became increasingly prized targets for egg collectors and trophy-hunters, which probably sealed the birds fate in Cornwall.
Choughs are deeply rooted in Cornish culture they are depicted on the countys coat of arms alongside a miner and fisherman, businesses and organisations use the name, and many refer to them as Cornish choughs. They also feature regularly in Cornish legend, and rumour has it that King Arthur was transformed into a chough when he died, the red feet and beak representing his violent, bloody end.

Splendid this bird, but they are thieves... as I have been told! Any way they are cute! Excellent pict M'sieur Danob!
Excellent shot Dan - the detailing on the feathers (especially in full zoom!) is fantastic. And a great story behind the picture - thank you for that, even though I'm a Brit, I didn't know all that about King Arthur!!! Brilliant capture. xx
Long life to the chough (Never seen that bird before !) and many thanks for the King's Arthur's legend ........... In France we have a bird named "Chouca des tours ", it looks like yours, but it doesn' t have red feet and red beak .........

What a magnificently formed bird. Great muscular structure and sturdy build. The color of the beak and feet is spectacular against the black. I bet it was exciting to get this shot! Wonderful!
