Description
Another "surf goer" from yesterday's beach jaunt. I think preening would have been a no win situation with all the wind that we were having! This one was certainly trying! Not sure exactly which kind of bird, as I don't have my bird book handy.

I like this natural, almost behind the scenes picture. so much detail from the feathers, to the foam, along with the reflection that serves to well frame the subject. very nice composition in what appears to be a spontaneous moment. Nice Pic!
Possibly if he's about 15 inches long he's a Willet. Looks like he might be entering the breeding stage as he's getting more spots on his neck. They also have a black and white wing stripe which is visible in flight, and I see a tiny bit of white and black on his back. Not easy to identify with his head turned and tucked in. Nice clear shot though.XOXO

i think barsyl is correct, it looks like an about-to-get-breeding-plumage Willet, the pale belly and leg colour is right.
