Description
The largest raptor that can be seen in the British Isles, and without doubt the most magestic, sad to say I have not been able to get close enough as yet to capture one in flight with its wing span over 8 feet!!..
Widespread in Scotland and the Lake District in the 18th Century, the species was wiped out by persecution and became extinct in Britain by 1916. A series of re-introduction programs from 1975 onwards to the Island of Rhum in the Inner Hebrides, resulted in the first successful breeding in 1985. Birds are now more scattered along the west coast of Scotland. In 1992 a re-introduction programme was initiated on the west coast of Ireland. Scandinavian birds are seen less than annually in the east of England.
A pair have been breeding on the Island Of Mull and was featured in Springwatch on UK TV this kind of fame leaves me rather nervous of the nest getting raided, but at the same time the interest has meant that 24 hour watches on the birds, and it is illegal to photograph breeding pairs without a license..

Beautiful work again Danny! What a creature, and your detail, pov, and dof are always perfect!
fantastique portrait !!!
Impressive! Aloha
A magnificent bird, ruffled feathers and all. There is a hint of hope from your comments which makes the bird that much more appealing!
Strong and proud eagle!!! Wonderful capture!!!
I think this is just supurb, the detail on the subject is so crisp against the blured background that I feel like I could ruffle those feathers (and lose a finger to that wicked beak!) The 'ruffled' look of the eagle gives this composition a very full effect. One of the best raptor pics I think I have come across. Thanks for sharing the pic and the history of this eagle. Jenny
Again. You did a very proud eagle. The colours and DOF is just perfect. Big reference I wish to do some day. Hugs
what a wonderful eagle and what a wonderful capture
Magnificent! These programs do seem to be more successful than those for some mammals - Bald Eagle, Osprey are both good proof of successful protection measures. So his changes are not too bad!
Jst awesome as usual Danny.
The pounds that beak must be able to exert...! a very well built bird indeed. How marvelous to see one at all. Even with our more common bald eagles here, when I see one in flight I suck in air! I can't imagine a bird with a prehistoric sized wingspread of 8 feet! Fantastic photo!
So cool, what a fabulous shot once again!
Amazing detail, and the clarity in the feathers is awesome. Some great info to go along with this grand capture. I hope the re-introduction does help get this fabulous bird, off the endangered list.
Anotner magnificent work!
You captured a Perfect Pose! His colors and markings are beautiful! Glad you are out there to capture shots like this!
what an impressive bird......love the tips on the feathers......wonderful details as well
wonderful bird, great capture & DOF! Well done mate!
It is a beautiful bird indeed and captured just right. I also am very concerned about birds welfare. In Holland an eagle of any kind is unique.. they became extinct many years ago, but are recovering slightly.
Gorgeous bird captured with fantastic detail!
A truly majestic bird and fine capture. 8 ft wing span - wow! CC

Wonderful shot - thanks for sharing!
A splendid shot. Thanks for the interesting info.
I'm becoming redundant by saying magnificent, but this really is. The ruffled feathers is a great capture and it would indeed be a sight to see an eight foot wing span. Bravo that they are being re-introduced.
Wonderful details in the feathers, he just looks as a king, awsome shot!
Great capture of this beauty.
Outstanding shot of this beautiful and impressive bird. Thanks for sharing!!
