Description
Yes I'm still playing with my new toy. But don't worry I haven't forgotten Poser and I'm working on what is turning out to be a rather complex rendering - again. Hope to post it soon. By the way, thank you for all those lovely comments for my picture of Scoop. Scoop says that's she's worthy.
This is one of the TTC's (Toronto Transit Commission) "Red Rockets". It's traveling on the Carlton Line (Route 506) on its way to High Park in the west end of the old City of Toronto.
The CLRV model of streetcar has been running on Toronto streets since the late 1970's. They replaced earlier "Red Rockets" or PCC streetcars. The PCC's in their turn replaced the first so called "Red Rockets", the 1920's vintage Peter Witts - a variety of vehicle my mother affectionately refers to as "the bone shakers".
As you can see Toronto streetcars typically travel in mixed traffic. Toronto has one of the few traditional streetcar networks in North America that has survived into modern times. Though it was slated for elimination during the 50's and 60's and more than half the old network was closed and ripped up during this period. But the oil crisis of the early 70's changed public and political attitude towards the streetcars and the remaining network was preserved. New cars were ordered (the CLRVs) tracks were upgraded (sometimes with right-of-ways) and slowly the network is expanding once again.

On its way to Parkdale thro little Italy I guess? A grand shot for sure, and I liked the info to go along with it. Nice work neighbour!

Nice picture and goos perspective
Fascinating vehicle and shot. San Fransisco is the only other place I can think of that still has running trolley cars. Oops, New Orleans used to have some but they were for tourists and sight-seeing the old mansions. I love these old icons of a day gone by :)
Super shot. Love the bright, clearness of it. Excellent!!!
We have lightrail...95% of the tracks are consealed from autos - thank goodness.
Fine mode of transport, nice to see some of it being preserved. Excellent capture!
Kind of a unique look to a transit carrier...looks almost like a bus from the front. Nice photo! :)
You going to have a lot of fun with the new camera
