Nikon 7900 image.
This is a common Red Wasp. I am not sure why these are wingless but I saw several this summer that seemed like their wings just withered away. It didn't seem to affect them other than the obvious fact that they could no longer fly.

What an oddity. I've never seen red wasps, the withered wings are a truely bizarre occurance. Were the young and still growing them do you think? Thanks BJ
