Description
Udzha is an crater, 45 km (28 mi)in diameter, that lies on the outer edge of the Northern Polar Ice Cap in a region of deep spiraling canyons and smaller troughs. In the winter, the crater's sharp-edged rim barely are almost hidden from view by the ever deepening snow and ice accumlation. Only in the Martian summer can Udzha be clearly seen; and even then, it is partially covered by the dusty ice cap. The Martian Poles are not places of pristine whiteness; rather, their ice and snow cover hve a reddish hue because they are a mixture of water, carbon dioxide, and planetary dust.
Udzha Station is one of many small science stations that the Mars Planetary Service has set up all over the planet. The full-time personnel are 22, but they may have double that many people there on temporary assignments or research. The canyons where the station is located are windy places and it is a typical dusty day. In the background, the upper edges of the hills are covered with ice but because of the dust, it is difficult to separate the ice cap from the rocky portions of the landscape.

Our Martian is Dwayne Cope, known to many here at Renderosity as RETIRED. Dwayne and I share a passion for Mars and I've featured him in an earlier picture in the gallery called, "Home on the Range II." Changed the texture of the suit, this time. This picture is dedicated to Dwayne in the hopes that it will cheer him up. (He has some very serious physical difficulties all along--and especially lately.)
The terrain was created in Bryce from an overhead photo by one of NASA's satellites circling Mars. It's texture is actually from the picture, which was in color. The buildings are "Olympus Mons" and "Olympus Mons Hanger" both by DAZ Originals created by Redhouse Studios. The vehicles were created by me using Davo's "Ground Vehicle Construction Set" at DAZ. It was textured by me. The survival suit is Mars Suit for Victoria 3 by Lynn Jonathan (Renderosity).
As always, thanks for all the comments on earlier work. I deeply appreciate your visiting my gallery. Do come back.

Very impressive composition with some convincing depth and scale. I really like the description of this geographic feature as well. Congrats!
Great way to place Dwayne on Mars. Hope he doesn't get kidded for wearing Vicky's suit though. Excellent image
Martians are a practical people, Dave. The way we see it, Vicky's suit is preferable to no suit at all.
Absolutely mrvelious my friend. Certainly makes me wish that it could be true. :-)
