Description
A dedi to Valou.
This is the Maryland 40 and 8 boxcar. It is one of 49 sent to the US by the citizens of France after Big Mistake 2. The cars were filled with all sorts of goodies which were sometimes loaned to people to make special occaissions a bit more special: for example; handmade lace wedding gowns.
I've seen the cars for Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington state, and Oregon.
Here is a link from a Delaware site for those who may wish for a bit more info.

or
Google on 'gratitude train'
I once met a fellow, on line, who was writing a book on the "Gratitude Train." I hope he got to finish it. It's a small chapter of WW2 and one that should not be missed.
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Good one erland
i didn't know there was such a train! thanks for the info
I forgot to mention: the title 40 and 8 refers to the recommended capacity of such cars. 40 soldiers or 8 horses. You can just make that out in the upper central portion of the image. Sadly most of the contents of the cars are long lost... as are some of the wagons themselves.
