Description

Another capture of nature's hijinks over Southern California in early December 2005. My research indicates these are cumulonimbus clouds. The higher wispier clouds in the far background are of the altocumulus and cirrocumulus variety. No rain resulted from all this because the air mass was stable with virtually no moisture. In medical terms, these bulging low hangers would be labeled as in a state of "false labor," with nary any water behind all that posturing. In this case, the bark is worse than the bite.

In California a sky like this means something... but back home on the Gulf Coast, all this means is its another day and if you stand still for five minutes it will all be different... :-) Nice sky.

You're half right, MrsLubner. Although you rarely ever see anything like this down in the coastal areas of Southern California, where this photo was taken, this scene is rather common up around our foothills and mountains. We often experience widely varying weather patterns within just a few miles of each other, i.e., cloudbursts and flooding in the nearby foothills; abundant sunshine in the city, all at the same time.

Neat capture, looks like you were real close to those clouds when you took the photo. :)))
