Description

Okay, I tried my hand at a few new techniques in Vue and this is what I came up with. Took FOREVER to dowload, over three hours. I did it in chunks over the course of a few days. Took me awhile to get the lighting right too, and I'm still not sure whether I like the lighting. Anyway, here it is, nice and simple. Please offer criticism, as I'd like to improve what I can do in Vue. Thanks.

It's a nice scene, though the colors look a little pale and similar. Would the rock be the same shade as the trees?

Looks fantastic! The lighting is great! Does Vue do bump mapping? Might add a tad of bump to the big rock on the right? I think this is a sweet scene!! The low camera angle is very nice, a duck hunters view?

Wow! Perfect backdrop! The only thing and remember I have no idea about your software, maybe a tiny bit more contrast/shadows.

A great image Rich and it has a lot of potential, I was wondering how many lights you have in there? Generally I'll try and use a single point of illumination whether it be the sun or a spotlight and only introduce other lights to lift or balance selected parts of the scene - after all in the real world there is only one sun! Increasing the contrast will improve the whole scene and I would spend some time playing around with your render settings as this will have the most impact on the image quality and reduce the grainy/noise effect that you are getting. I think you are making the common mistake of throwing far too much light at the scene and I would suggest that you start dark and increase the light until it looks right. Try not to use volumetric effects until you have mastered the standard lighting as this too can cause over illumination and unwanted noise. It took me a while to get the hang of Vue's lighting controls and render settings so keep at it and you'll get there too - Let me know if you need more help, especially the render settings.

I have just started learning Vue myself, and it looks like you are getting the hang of it pretty well. The only thing I can say is , this looks too calm and serene for you, I keep expecting to see something pop out of the pond....Where's the monster??? LOL!!

Marvelous, just marvelous. It really does show the nice and sweet calm of yourself. LOL. You must have been just concentrating and forgot to have a monster lurking. Seriously, it really is well done. I think it grand that you are tackling and conquering Vue. That is no easy chore.

I am still saving for vue..and cant wait to see how it all works! This looks excellent..i dont know what look you were going for But this looks like the fog is just lifting and sun is still diffused by it..i did expect a creature too..Excellent work!!

I think you are almost there in creating a beautiful image. I would work on the lighting, place it at maybe 4 or 5 oclock and low on the horizon. Increase the shadows and work on that foreground blob - it just doesnt look as real as the rest of the image. GL

I have a bit of trouble with lighting in Vue myself, and I'm sorry to say I can't offer any suggestions, as you are totally more advanced than me. Also I have Esprit, and if I remember correctly you said you have Infinite. I have grown used to having to put in a few extra lights because I'd thought a single light source doesn't properly illuminate all the polygons, resulting in the grainy effect. After reading Bogwoppet's explanation, I see I'm probably wrong about that. I'm curious as to why Vue images seem grainier than Bryce or even Terragen. (which I also don't know how to use) Well anyway, I too expected a creature, or at least some tentacles :)

Listen to bogwoppet my friend, I rarely use more than two lights anymore, the sun or an ibl/hdri and a single bulb light is usually about it. Spend lots of time playing with atmosphere and render settings, when done right these can give your images remarkable depth, but, they take time to learn to control, they will also add greatly to your render times so if your like me you have two computers. You have talent, buckets full of talent, you just need a practice, practice and then practice! Your doing fine!

Well I give you props for trying something new. I think this is a beautiful image. The only thing I can think about doing is maybe making the trees in the background a bit darker. The shading that is, but over all this is quite a relaxing image. Thanks for sharing it with us sweetie. Hugz

Don't have Vue, can't offer help. But this looks pretty good to me, though the lighting on the trees and the rock don't seem to mesh well. It's almost as if something's shading the rock.

It looks great. What I would try 1st would be to swap foreground and background lighting to try and bring out the background details more. A thought, just a thought, it's your Image.

Well, I see that the grass on top of the rocks looks pretty flat. And the water could use more reflection. Just trying to help.

Really good scene. I suggest you remove the rock on right and replace with a log or so; will then be able to see more into distant scene. Super depth of field and nicely placed fore ground rushes.

Overall great image, but too low shadows I think. Will be good more lights (spot) and ambient. Composition is great. Superb trees :-) I wish You to more often upload images to Vue gallery :-) *****

Looks fine to me Rich, but I haven't had Vue long enough to give any advice, just the grainyness and bit more contrast could be the only adjustments I would make other than that, Kool stuff buddy Cheers
