Description
She could here people calling her name as the violet light closed around her. Things snapped into focus as the golden rings formed around her. As they spun on their own axis, she departed Shalmiraine like a bullet fired from a gun.
Martya had always wanted to fly through the sky without a craft. She could watch the world from the top of Shalmiraine and dream of dancing amongst the cloud-tops and playing tag with the wind.
Sometimes when she was sad and alone, the 'winged woman' would come to her and comfort her tears. Martya had never known her mother, so called the angelic seeming vision, 'mother'. She had never heard of angels visiting Scavs, or of multi-colored angels, either.
Now, Martya heard her heart beating like thunder in her ears, as she passed ghost-like through the impregnable walls of Shalmiraine and flew like a faster-than-sound ghost above the clouds. The golden rings of light spun and sang to her, as she was drawn across the continent to pain and death.
Her golden rings sang of a sister about to die. Martya knew of no sister. She had an older brother, and younger brother, but no sisters? She shruged and flew.
She knew there was need, but she gave out a scream of pure pleasure as she hurtled toward the lowlands, toward Taru City and past some of the huge flying cities. She didn't know if they saw her, and didn't care in the rush of flight under her own power.
She hurtled to her destiny in the hands of a power older than mankind itself.
