Description
Today we honor America's war casualties, and return to Normandy American Cemetery above Omaha Beach at Colleville Sur Mer, France. The opening and closing scenes of "Saving Private Ryan" were filmed here. The Niland Brothers are among the 33 pairs of brothers buried at the cemetery and are said to be the inspiration for the movie.

John: You are probably right, but this pic isn't what it seems to be. This is actually two photos combined. The graves were too far apart to make the inscriptions on the crosses visible.(I do have a photo of both together.) Since the upper backgrounds were nearly identical, I had to crop them out as well as some of the foreground grass. The images blend at the center cross as the vanishing point.Hence,the Niland crosses are not on the same level.
