Maybe I was being too subtle, so here is a better look at that wall between the two houses. That gateway seems to be a recent addition/improvement. Those gunports look to be original equipment as they are not on the other portion of the wall which seems to have been reconstructed. Looks as if this peaceful campus was once a fortified farm/plantation in times past. When I turned the corner, outside the wall, and started up the path, I realized I was facing a row of rifle/musket ports. Checking the interior of the wall confirmed it... stone cut to fit, not concrete to simulate. These were the real thing. The end of the wall also contains the remains of some massive iron hinges. The barn has been remodelled extesively, but I can see how it may have served as a 'blockhouse' to help guard the now-vanished gate. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.
