The grey squirrel is diurnal and most active at dawn and dusk, searching for available food. Compared with the red squirrel, it spends more time foraging and feeding on the ground than in the trees. It is, however, very agile in the trees and can run along slender twigs, leaping from tree to tree. The long, muscular hind legs and short front legs help it to leap. The hind feet, longer than the front, are double-jointed to help the squirrel scramble head first up and down the tree trunk. Sharp claws are useful for gripping bark and the tail helps the squirrel to balance. If a squirrel should fall, it can land safely from heights of about 9m (30ft). The grey squirrel can leap more than 6 metres! Considering it's size that is amazing one reason why it is pretty pointless trying to stop them from raiding your garden!!
This one has sniffed out a nut he had stored away they do not remember where they hide them and rely on smell to find them again..
Thanks for taking time to look and feel free to comment etc if you wish

Love those squirrels, each with their own nature! Our's are usually chestnut red, and in the Alps I saw only black ones! Gorgeous work, Danny, very beautiful! :)

Huge congrats Danny, and a brilliant pic to mark this most auspicious occasion.Wonderful detail...and such a cute capture. You actually made me think I like squirrels again!(Every year I have issues with them eating my cable and telephone wires...sigh...and we have to pay someone to catch them before they eat their way back into my attic...destructive lil buggers!)Sorry...I'll shut up now, lol!Congrats again!!!-M :^)
Fantastic shot Danny, these clever little chaps used to throw acorns on my roof and collect them out of the gutter, facinating to watch but could be a bit irritating at times lol, still a few reds here is some areas.
What a lovely shot of this little critter - and such a gorgeous tail! Our pine trees are loaded with these squirrels and they do indeed jump huge distances and are very fiesty. Our mini doxie loves to chase them off our deck, but never comes close to catching one. :o) CC
Great shot! Very detailed!
