Description
We all saw the old movies of the twenty's and 30's the children comes in and one of them gives the teacher a apple[teacher pet they are called]
I saw this set up of a classroom at Acadian Village and thought this is first grade to the 12 grade if the school goes that high back then.
I know the light from the window is a blow out. But you can see it was bad lighting. Plus I do not like to use flashes.
And I love that apple on the teacher desk.[yes it fake] but everthing else is old. I do not know the years this was in for I forgot to read the paper on this lol.
thanks for looking and comments and votes

What a fantastic capture ! Wonderful textures and details ! Excellent work !!! V
The one room school house was, in many ways, vastly superior to contemporary public and industrial models. Among other things, children of all ages and levels interacted, and helped one another to do their lessons. Depending on the teacher, the pace was adaptable to individual children, and since the class size was usually very small, there was much individual attention, both from the teacher and from other students. Texts were often very sophisticated, compared to their modern equivalents, especially at the early level, and basics were taught well, because it was what the parents required, and might be all many children would get in the way of formal schooling. It may surprise many Americans, where the public school system is corrupt to the point of being "diseducation", that there are still one--room school houses in parts of Africa where the same basics are taught better than in the modern American grade system.
I sooo agree with what Hopalong stated. My girlfriend is a school teacher and you just wouldn't believe some of the stories she's shared with me. Each year, they get more and more children who are damaged by the Meth drugs that are swarming our country. Teachers no longer have any control over the students and THE STUDENTS KNOW IT !! There are so many new teachers who after teaching only 1 - 2 years, quit and go onto some thing else. They just can't believe how things have turned out. It's really bad and I'm not sure the public fully understands how bad it's gotten. Anyway... I also love your photo just the way it is. It's a great reminder of how things used to be.
excellent picture!!!!!
I like the soft effect of natural illumination.....!!! Beautiful scholastic atmosphere....!!! Wonderful photo my friend.....!!!!
Think the apple of the desk is superb mr jocko.. really adds to the atmosphere.. and the light from the window agree but, technically achieved the finished result, has spoilt the end result... l love this series Jocko excellent
Excellent Jock!!
It is a cool classroom! V (:
This is a wonderful image I think the light is just fine gives it an old master feel.. We can easily get too worried about technical aspects rather than look at the mood it creates!!
I imagine the stove made things of comfort! It is a fabulous scene!
Well done Jock. In many ways the modern art class is the 'one room schoolhouse' model - I'm teaching art faculty how to use rhino in their foundations design courses - and made the statement that because their skill levels with computers and CAD was all over the place they had to help each other ~ like in the one room school and surprisingly they all said that's how they teach their regular art classes! As Hopalong says it's too bad that model for the rest of the system is gone.
Very intersting composition. Excellent and detailed shot!!!
home sweet home, but of course we did not have nice furniture like that. excellent capture for the lighting
Hi Jock, man you post them faster than I can comment (kidding here friend,I know you can take it) Man does this one bring back memories. I started grade one in a small little red school house (true fact) now I don't mean the 30's but the 50's in a very small town we were living in at the time. I was the best student in the class but as years went by I became the worst, aint't that something something. Fantastic my man ! George.
When i see this, i think that o lot of childrens are not enjoy of their goods school conditions today, it's a good testimony!
I like very much this serie Jocko, is perfect for a book secret of time... excellent capture and in this composition of color and lighting... excellent my friend for sharing this precious old time ;) good day and kiss
My mom spent most of her early school years in a school like this, where all the grades were in one room. People are right, classrooms are largely out of control these days and meaningful education very difficult to achieve. If you ever saw a math or english test from about 100 years ago it would shock you with it's complexity and difficulty. Terrific shot, I think you did a great job with the lighting.
School is out for summer, yeah Alice C. knew what to do...~Cheers~ :o)
Wow excellent series of photos Jocko... I really enjoy this little trip you are taking us on down memory lane. :-) Wonderful capture and POV on this. Thank you for your comments on my pics too! V
Very interesting series you are posting for us all Jock! And you are so wise to avoid flash, it would have damaged this lovely image!
Personally, I like the lighting. Cool shot, Jock.
I love all these pictures of old buildings..... I love old buildings!!! LOL :P That apple looks so out of place....too new .... surrounded by all that wood!
Excellent image very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This shows only so well the pc's of Bill Gates have been preceded by the Apples! LOL! Fantastic work, love the mood here! :)
Love this compo. Beautiful colors, details and nice mood!
I actually started school in one of these little schools! In Minnesota, way up north near Deluth, small schools were very popular 28 years ago, and still were used in certain areas. If I can remember right, there was only maybe 20 kids tops in this class, and we ranged from kindergarten(the grade I was there) to a couple kids in high school classes. I truly wish schools were this way still. Maybe our kids would learn the way they are supposed to and WANT to stay in school to finish.
A superb capture Jock!
Hopalong is quite right! Nice image Jocko!!
This is very fine !
Outstanding! Love this series!!
