Description
White-tailed fish eagle
Haliaeetus albicilla
The white-tailed fish eagle is the largest UK bird of prey. It has olive green eyes, brown body plumage with a conspicuously pale head and neck which can be almost white in older birds, and the tail feathers of adults are white. In flight it has massive long, broad wings with 'fingered' ends. Its head protrudes and it has a short, wedge-shaped tail. It was persecuted to extinction in the Uk in the early 19th century and the present population has been reintroduced to Scotland from Norway..

oh wowww this is beautiful and in your true style.. love the softness of the feather and handsome pose .. you always manage to bring out the essence of these creatures..:) superb..!!!!
Not heard of these - I thought it was only Ospreys and Capt Birdseye that ate fish. He wears his feathers well another fine portrait and educational write up :)
how did you get so close? even with telephoto this an excellent closeup capture. very beautiful bird
Impressive bird eye ! Very nice portrait !
Such an impressive look, so strong and proud, a bird that shows respect for some reason. It seems that he warns you or give a sign "don't come to close" .......that's what I do sometimes in my life, if you know what I mean. Protection is the best way......such wonderful soft plumage, something I love so badly, feathers are so touching !! Why I love feathers so much? Because the day my brother died I got a sign. I was staring through the hospital window, and a black feather from a crow whirls from the roof......and deep inside I knew he would not make it, and I was right, he past away a few hours later...that's why I love feathers so much..........thanks for sharing my dear....
