Description
This is a Gloster Aircraft model IVa, which was a racing floatplane built for the 1927 Schnieder Trophy. Three of these, along with two Supermarine S5's and a Short Crusader formed the RAF "high speed flight" that year. This actual Iv competed in the race and ran quite well until forced out with engine problems. The inset panels in the wings and the floats are flush skin mounted radiators to cut down on drag. It had an 875hp Napier Lion engine and was good for about 295mph all up. Apart from all this history, for me there is just one important thing about this plane... Its gorgeous!
